Trip Itinerary
اليوم 1: Day One | Arrival and an evening on Narikala above the lights of Tbilisi
You are met at Tbilisi International Airport and driven the seventeen kilometres to the hotel. There is no daytime programme today; the evening is the whole point. The cable car climbs from Rike Park to Narikala fortress shortly before sunset, when the city below turns from daylight into lights in half an hour, and we walk the fortress wall to the Mother of Georgia statue. Down into Sololaki for dinner on a small balcony in one of its old houses. An unhurried return, and tomorrow we leave eastwards at ten, not before.
اليوم 2: Day Two | The road to Sighnaghi and the wall at sunset
We leave Tbilisi east after a late breakfast. The road runs a hundred and ten kilometres through Sagarejo across bare hills that turn gradually into vineyards, about two hours with a photo stop on the ridge. We reach Sighnaghi at midday and check into a room looking straight out over the Alazani valley, with the afternoon left for rest. In the late afternoon we start the walk along the wall built by King Erekle II in the eighteenth century: four and a half kilometres and twenty-three towers, some with inner stairs you can climb. اليوم 3: Day Three | Bodbe in the morning, a photo session in the golden hour
One relatively early start is the only exception: Bodbe Monastery, two kilometres away, before the coaches arrive, with its long cypress avenue and the tomb of St Nino. From the edge of the garden a steep path drops about twenty minutes to St Nino's spring in the valley, and the climb back takes a little longer. Back in town for a late lunch, then an afternoon with no schedule: stone streets, wooden balconies, carpet stalls, and the house of justice the town became known for registering marriages in, which is where its nickname came from. In the golden hour the photo session begins on the wall and in the lanes.
اليوم 4: Day Four | A slow morning, then back to Tbilisi
The last morning has no early start: breakfast on the balcony while the valley still lies under a thin mist that lifts with the sun. We leave near midday and stop on the way at the domed cathedral of Ninotsminda near Sagarejo, a sixth-century church whose walls and bell tower still stand in a quiet village, a good place for the last photographs of the trip. Tbilisi is two hours away, for a final lunch or a short hour of shopping depending on your flight, then the transfer to Tbilisi International Airport.
