Bahrain to Tbilisi: the flight and the time difference
The direct flight from Bahrain International to Tbilisi takes about three hours, and Georgia is one hour ahead, so there is no jet lag to waste a short break on. Many flights land after midnight; the driver follows your flight number, waits in arrivals with a sign carrying your name, and hands you a SIM card for the week, included with the booking. The airport is about 17 km from the centre.
The best dates for Bahraini travellers: Eid, summer and December
Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are the busiest seasons from Bahrain, because four to six days are enough for Tbilisi and the mountains. Tbilisi hotels fill on those dates, so book car and hotel together six to eight weeks ahead, still with no deposit. In summer, when Manama passes 40 degrees with Gulf humidity, Tbilisi sits at about 31 to 34 in dry air, and Kazbegi and Gudauri at about 18 to 22.
In December, National Day on 16 and 17 December joined to a weekend is long enough for snow in Gudauri or Bakuriani, since the snow season runs from about mid-December to March. Halal food is easy with a driver who knows the city: Turkish, Azerbaijani and Arab restaurants in central Tbilisi and along the Batumi seafront, and Georgian dishes ordered without pork or alcohol. Prayer is at the Tbilisi mosque in the old town and the mosque in central Batumi; the driver stops at both at prayer time.
