Overview
This 6 day Georgia tour is the classic pairing of the capital and the Black Sea, and it suits travellers who want two cities properly rather than six in a hurry. The order is deliberate: two nights in Tbilisi, then three in Batumi, with departure from Batumi International Airport, so no day is lost retracing the same road. The full Tbilisi day is built on walking rather than driving: the sulphur bath quarter and the Leghvtakhevi waterfall hidden behind it, a climb on foot up the Betlemi steps to Narikala fortress, the Dezerter spice bazaar, and then the Chronicle of Georgia above the Tbilisi Sea. The transfer day is not only a road day: we stop in Kutaisi at Gelati Monastery, a UNESCO listed site. In Batumi there is one day for the city and one for the Adjara countryside. Trip Itinerary
اليوم 1: Day One | Arrival in Tbilisi and an evening on Rustaveli Avenue
You are met at Tbilisi International Airport and driven to the hotel. The evening is spent not in the old town but on the city's other face: broad Shota Rustaveli Avenue with its trees and early twentieth century buildings, from Freedom Square and the golden Saint George column up to the opera house. Afterwards we walk the lanes of the Sololaki quarter with its carved wooden balconies and finish with dinner in one of its houses turned restaurant. A short evening that rests the body after the flight and leaves the long walking for tomorrow.
اليوم 2: Day Two | Tbilisi on foot: the baths, the waterfall and Narikala
A full day almost entirely on foot. We begin in Abanotubani with its brick domes over the sulphur springs and follow the narrow gorge behind it to the Leghvtakhevi waterfall inside the city itself. Then we climb the Betlemi steps in Sololaki up to Narikala fortress and the Mother Georgia statue; going up on foot gives you angles the cable car riders never see. After lunch we pass the Sioni and Anchiskhati churches, then the Dezerter bazaar for spices and Georgian cheese. Late afternoon we drive to the Chronicle of Georgia and its huge pillars above the Tbilisi Sea at sunset.
اليوم 3: Day Three | Transfer to Batumi through Kutaisi and Gelati
We leave Tbilisi in the morning heading west on the highway; Batumi is about three hundred and seventy kilometres away through the Rikoti pass and its new tunnels. We break the drive in Kutaisi, Georgia's third city: Gelati Monastery, a UNESCO listed site with its mosaics and old academy, then Bagrati Cathedral on its hill, and a short stop at the golden Colchis Fountain on the central square with lunch in town. We continue the remaining one hundred and forty kilometres to Batumi and arrive before sunset for a first walk along the boulevard.
اليوم 4: Day Four | Batumi: the boulevard, the Alphabet Tower and the Argo cable car
The city day. We start on Batumi Boulevard, running some seven kilometres along the sea, then Miracle Park with the hundred and thirty metre Alphabet Tower and its curling Georgian letters, and the moving Ali and Nino sculpture whose two metal figures pass through one another every few minutes. Then Europe Square with the golden Medea statue and the Piazza with its mosaic floor. After lunch we ride the Argo cable car about 2.6 kilometres up to Anuria hill for the whole bay. In the evening, the dancing fountains on the lake.
اليوم 5: Day Five | The Adjara countryside: Makhuntseti, the stone bridge and Kobuleti
We leave the sea and head east into inland Adjara, a green valley full of stone bridges. The first destination is Makhuntseti waterfall, about thirty kilometres away, with a short path to its base, then the neighbouring arched stone bridge dating from the twelfth century and still crossed on foot. We stop at the tea plantations on the local slopes and taste Georgian tea with mountain honey and boat-shaped Adjarian khachapuri. On the way back we call at the long beach of Kobuleti north of Batumi for a quiet sunset.
اليوم 6: Day Six | A free morning by the sea, then departure
An open morning depending on your flight: a last swim, a walk on the boulevard, or quick shopping on Chavchavadze street and in the city malls. Batumi International Airport is very close, about six kilometres south of the centre, so the drive takes no more than fifteen minutes, which is what makes the departure day relaxed here. If your flight leaves from Tbilisi instead, we arrange the road return the same day with an early start, since the drive takes around six hours.
