Georgia in Summer 2026: Cool Places, the Sea and the Costs

2026-10-02

Georgia in summer means one thing to our Gulf guests: an escape from July and August heat to a country three to four hours away by air, where the same day holds a warm capital, mountains at about twenty degrees and a sea at about 25. Here is what we arrange every summer: where the cool air is, when Batumi's sea is best, how to split a week, and when to book.

We at Hawa Georgia, registered in Tbilisi since 2018, build the trip around a private car with an Arabic-speaking driver, priced per day for the whole car, with no prepayment: you pay on arrival in Georgia. Figures are approximate, checked in October 2026. The full year is in Georgia Weather Month by Month: Tbilisi, Batumi and Mountain Temperatures, and What to Pack; this page covers summer alone.

How hot is Georgia in summer?

It depends on the place more than the month. Tbilisi in July and August runs at about 31 to 34 degrees by day, hot but dry, with evenings around 20. Batumi reads cooler, about 27 to 29, but humid. The mountains are the real story: Kazbegi at about 18 to 22, Gudauri at 15 to 20 with cold nights, Bakuriani and Borjomi at about 22 to 26.

June is gentler, with Tbilisi at about 27 to 29, and its second half gives a full summer without the peak of heat or crowds.

Where the cool air is: Kazbegi, Gudauri, Bakuriani and Borjomi

The Georgian Military Road from Tbilisi to Kazbegi is about 156 km and three hours. At the Jvari Pass, near 2,400 m, you may want a jacket in August, and in Stepantsminda under Mount Kazbek summer is a permanent spring: green meadows, cold rivers and the Tsminda Sameba church reached by local 4x4. A night in Kazbegi is our most requested summer night; see Kazbegi and the Caucasus: A Day Trip Guide from Tbilisi.

Westwards, Borjomi offers its park, springs and pine forest, with Bakuriani forty minutes above it, cooler and better for children. With a week you pick one direction; with ten days you take both.

The sea at Batumi: when and how

The swimming season runs from late June to mid-September, with the warmest water in late July and August, about 25 to 26 degrees. The beach is pebble, so pack water shoes; for sand, the dark magnetic beach of Ureki is an hour south, calmer and shallower.

Batumi is not only the sea: waterfalls, stone bridges and the hills of Adjara lie within an hour, the idea behind Georgia 6-Day Tour – Batumi and the Countryside. For where to stay and eat, see Batumi Travel Guide 2026: Where to Stay, Beaches and Costs.

What families do in a Georgian summer

Our rule for families: one big activity a day, morning or late afternoon, with midday in the hotel or in the air-conditioned car heading somewhere higher. In Tbilisi: the cable car to Narikala early, Mtatsminda at sunset. North: Ananuri fortress, then horses in the meadows of Stepantsminda. West: Prometheus cave, Martvili canyon and the water parks. The full list by age is in Family Activities in Georgia.

Summer crowds and when to book

July and August are the peak of the year. Family hotels in Batumi and Kazbegi fill first, and rooms for three or four run out weeks before doubles. Book car and hotel together six to eight weeks ahead for July and August, four weeks for June and September; a booking with us takes one WhatsApp message and no deposit, so early costs nothing. Our driver puts the mountain day in midweek when he can, since roads are busier at weekends.

A 7-day summer itinerary for Georgia

The frame behind most of our summer trips follows Georgia 7-Day Tour – Tbilisi, Kazbegi and Batumi: the capital, then the north, then west to the coast with no doubling back.

  • Day 1: Arrival in Tbilisi, airport welcome with a name sign, a SIM card for the week, rest.
  • Day 2: Tbilisi early: old town, Bridge of Peace, cable car; Mtatsminda in the evening.
  • Day 3: The Military Road to Kazbegi: Ananuri, Gudauri, the Friendship Monument; night in Stepantsminda.
  • Day 4: A cool morning in Kazbegi, back via Mtskheta; night in Tbilisi.
  • Day 5: West to Borjomi; night in Borjomi or Bakuriani.
  • Day 6: On to Batumi via Kutaisi and Prometheus cave; evening on the promenade.
  • Day 7: A morning by the sea, then departure from Batumi airport, which has direct summer flights from the Gulf.

If your flight home leaves from Tbilisi, give Batumi two nights and drive back on day seven: about 370 km and five and a half hours, never paired with a flight the same day. All summer programmes are in Georgia Summer Packages.

How much does a summer trip to Georgia cost?

The car is the item we set, the same in summer and winter: a sedan for three from 85 USD a day and a minivan for six from 100 USD a day, for the whole car with the Arabic-speaking driver, fuel, parking, the driver's lodging, airport meeting and child seats. From seven days there is a 5% discount, so a sedan for a week is 565 USD and a minivan 665 USD, whatever the number of passengers.

The hotel is optional, from our approved hotels, shown as the whole-stay total with breakfast before you confirm: a couple in a sedan with a 4-star hotel for seven days from 1,159 USD, a family of four in two rooms with a minivan and a 4-star hotel from 1,853 USD. In high-season weeks, most of July and August, the hotel total is higher and appears in full once you enter your arrival date in the "build your package" tool. Children under 5 are free. Your own spending is extra: the Batumi cable car about 15 GEL return a rider, a family meal about 80 to 120 GEL.

What to pack for a Georgian summer

Three layers: light cotton for Tbilisi and Batumi, a light jacket for Kazbegi and Gudauri, where evenings can fall to ten degrees, and a thin raincoat for the coast. Add walking shoes, water shoes, a hat and sunscreen. Sockets are European.

Tbilisi is hot by day, about 31 to 34 degrees, but dry with mild evenings; the mountains are cool in the same month.

Which month is best for a family?
