Georgia Weather Month by Month: Tbilisi, Batumi and Mountain Temperatures, and What to Pack

2026-09-23

Georgia's weather changes more with the place than with the month: on the same day Tbilisi can be hot and dry, Batumi humid and rainy, and Gudauri below freezing. The table below covers all twelve months, and we at Hawa Georgia arrange your car with an Arabic-speaking or English-speaking driver anywhere in Georgia at one price all year, with no prepayment: you pay on arrival.

Last updated: 3 October 2026. We review this page every season.

The figures follow the usual climate averages, last checked in September 2026, and are for planning, not a guarantee. In short: mid-May to mid-June and September to mid-October are the most comfortable everywhere; July and August are Batumi's beach season; December to March is snow season in Gudauri and Bakuriani. For a comparison by trip type, see Best Time to Visit Georgia: Snow, Sea, Family or Honeymoon.

Georgia weather by month: the table

Approximate daytime high and night-time low in degrees Celsius; the mountains column covers Gudauri (about 2,200 m) and Kazbegi (about 1,750 m).

Spring: April and May, green with showers

Snow holds in Gudauri until roughly early April while Tbilisi warms up; April is green, about 19 degrees by day with frequent showers, so our driver reorders the day by the sky. From about mid-May Tbilisi is around 24 degrees, Batumi around 21, and the Military Highway to Kazbegi is reliably open; Gergeti Trinity Church, at about 2,170 m, is usually five to ten degrees colder.

Summer: weather in Tbilisi in July and August, and Batumi's beach season

Tbilisi in July and August averages about 31 degrees and can pass 35, so we keep the city for mornings and evenings and use the hot hours for the drive somewhere higher: Kazbegi is about 18 to 22 degrees by day and Gudauri about 15 to 20, with nights cool enough for a jacket. Batumi is beach season proper: about 27 to 28 degrees, humid, a sea of about 25 to 26, and crowded. Batumi Travel Guide 2026: Where to Stay, Beaches and Costs covers the districts and beaches, and Batumi 5 Day Tour is a ready-made programme. June is the quieter alternative: Tbilisi about 28 degrees, the sea about 22.

Autumn: September and October are the best of the year, November is for the cities

Our single best month is September: Tbilisi about 26 degrees by day and 16 at night, Batumi about 25 with the sea around 24, mild mountains; early October is similar. Batumi, though, is the rainiest city in Georgia, at roughly 2,500 mm a year and wettest from September to December, so November on the coast is grey and damp. In November choose Tbilisi, about 13 degrees by day, and Kakheti rather than the coast.

Winter: when does it snow in Georgia and when does the ski season open

Settled snow lasts in Gudauri from roughly early December until early April, and in Bakuriani from about mid-December until March. Gudauri (about 2,200 m) has winter days around -2 to 2 degrees and nights around -8 to -12; Bakuriani (about 1,700 m) is a few degrees milder. We compare the two in Gudauri or Bakuriani? Which Georgia Ski Resort Is Better. Tbilisi stays mild, about 7 to 9 degrees by day, so a family can sleep in the capital and drive up to Gudauri, about 120 km; Georgia Snow Tour 5 Days - Gudauri is built on that combination. The Military Highway can close for a few hours after heavy snowfall; our driver checks it each morning, as we explain in Kazbegi and the Caucasus: A Day Trip Guide from Tbilisi. New Year week is the busiest and resort hotels sell out early.

Eid and school holidays: weather is not the only thing that sets the season

The Eid months and Gulf school holidays are peak family season whatever the weather. Our car price does not change by season; the hotel stay total is higher in high season, and availability tightens, so confirm on WhatsApp weeks ahead. There is no prepayment, and cancellation is free with prior notice.

What to pack, month by month

  • June to September: light clothes, a jacket for mountain days, walking shoes, sunscreen, an umbrella for Batumi.
  • April, May and October: layers, a light waterproof coat, shoes that do not mind mud.
  • November to March: a real winter coat, gloves, hat and non-slip shoes; ski equipment is rented at the resort.
  • Every month: mountain nights are cold even in August; bring a jacket.

A car with driver in every weather: one price all year

The price is per car, not per person, and fixed in every month for the car: a sedan at 85 USD a day for three passengers, a minivan at 100 for six, a van at 140 for eight and a Sprinter at 240 for twenty, including eight to ten hours a day, fuel, parking, airport transfers and a SIM. From seven days there is 5 percent off, from fourteen days 10 percent: a sedan for seven days is 565 USD, a minivan 665 USD. Hotels are optional, from our approved hotels, and you see the whole-stay total with breakfast: six nights in a double room from 594 USD at a four-star hotel or 1,194 USD at a five-star hotel in low season; the hotel is chosen at confirmation by availability. You can work out the cost of your trip and read the terms page; everything about the driver is in Arabic-Speaking Driver in Georgia: Price per Car, No Deposit. Payment is on arrival, in cash in US dollars or lari.
