Muscat to Tbilisi: flights and timing
The direct flight from Muscat to Tbilisi takes about three and a half to four hours on some days of the week, otherwise with one stop in the Gulf. Georgia and Oman are both on UTC+4, so you land on your own clock. The best dates for Omani travellers: summer escape, Eid and November
When Muscat passes 40 degrees from June to August, Tbilisi is at about 31 to 34, Kazbegi 18 to 22, and Batumi 27 to 29. Oman's school holiday, roughly late June to late August, is when a family spends a week to ten days with us, and the car earns a 5% discount from seven days and 10% from fourteen. Book the Eid weeks six weeks ahead. National Day on 18 November falls in a golden autumn; for snow wait for mid-December to March in Gudauri or Bakuriani. We price the car, not the traveller, fixed all year, with driver, fuel, parking and the driver's lodging included: for ten days after the discount, the sedan for three is 808 USD and the minivan for six 950 USD, for the whole car.
The hotel is optional and you see the whole-stay total with breakfast, never a nightly rate: six nights in a double room from 594 USD at 4 stars and 1,194 USD at 5 stars. Four or more take two rooms, and children under 5 stay free. A couple with a sedan and a 4-star hotel for ten days pays about 1,699 USD, a family of four with a minivan and two 4-star rooms about 2,732 USD. An Omani is not put off by a long road or mountain bends. The car and the driver for mountain roads
Choosing a car starts from passengers and bags, not from the road: the main roads are paved, and only rough sections such as the climb to Gergeti are driven in a local 4x4 we arrange for a small fee paid on the spot. One driver stays with you throughout, knows the mountain roads in every season, stops wherever you ask and respects the privacy of the women; if the Kazbegi road closes in a storm, we swap the day for Gudauri at no extra cost. Where to stay and what to eat: hotels and halal food
We do not name hotels, because our list changes with availability; the spread of nights makes the trip: three in Tbilisi, one or two in Kazbegi, two or three in Mestia or in Bakuriani, two in Batumi. Mountain hotels are smaller but clean and warm, and anyone who prefers a serviced apartment or a chalet gets its page with photos. Halal food is easy with the driver: Arab and Turkish restaurants, and Georgian dishes ordered without pork or alcohol. Prayer is at the mosque in Tbilisi's old town and the mosque in Batumi, and on the road the driver finds a quiet spot.
