Overview

The 7-day Batumi grand tour gathers everything asked for in Batumi into one trip from one hotel: the city with its squares, boulevard and cable car; the Adjara countryside with Gonio fortress, the Makhuntseti waterfall and the river activities from quad bikes, ziplines and rafting to karting and horses; the Mtirala forest, the botanical garden and the fish market; a long day to the turquoise Martvili canyon by boat; the north coast from Petra fortress to Shekvetili and the Tsitsinatela rides; and a sixth day that can become a free day or a cabin outside the city as the family wishes. Six nights in one Batumi hotel, with every day leaving from it and returning to it, so no moving about with children and bags. The parks and the seaside rides are at their best from May to September. The price is for the whole car, not per person, and covers the driver, fuel and road costs; it changes with the season and is confirmed on WhatsApp; the hotel is optional at four or five stars with the whole stay shown as one total; entry tickets, activities and boats are paid on the spot. Trip Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Day One | Arrival and a first evening on the boulevard

Pick-up at Batumi International Airport, about six kilometres south of the centre, and the transfer to the hotel where you stay all six nights, so no hotel change and no bags for the whole programme. A deliberately light first day: rest after the flight, then, as the heat eases, a short walk on the boulevard near the hotel and a first dinner on the street of Arabic and Turkish restaurants where everyone picks what they like. In the evening we agree the departure times for the following days with the driver, because the countryside and long-road days start early. For those arriving overland from Tbilisi we arrange the transfer the same day, with the road time counted exactly.

  2. Day 2: Day Two | Batumi city tour: the squares, the boulevard and Argo at sunset

Ten in the morning, from the hotel to Europe Square with the golden Medea statue and its facades, then the Piazza with its mosaics for photos. Next the boulevard: the glass Alphabet Tower, the moving Ali and Nino statue that meets and parts every ten minutes, and the Black Sea views at the end of the promenade. Time for the water activities at the marina for those who wish: the sightseeing ship, the speedboat, parasailing over the sea or the jet ski, booked on the spot. A light lunch by the sea and a rest at the hotel in the heat of the day. In the late afternoon the Argo cable car to the top of Anuria, with the city and the sea beneath you at sunset until Batumi lights up, then dinner on the street of Arabic and Turkish restaurants and back to the hotel.

  3. Day 3: Day Three | Batumi countryside: Gonio, Makhuntseti and the river activities

Nine in the morning, south along the coast road. For those who wish, a Turkish breakfast at a restaurant by the Turkish border (optional), then the Roman fortress of Gonio with its walls, towers and inner garden. Back north and east into the river valley: a stop at the meeting of the rivers where the two colours of water can be seen with the naked eye, then the Makhuntseti waterfall and Queen Tamar's arched stone bridge a few steps away. Next the activity area on the riverbank, all paid on the spot as you wish: mountain quad-bike safari, a short and a long zipline, rafting on the Makhuntseti river for four to six kilometres, a fifteen-minute karting session, horse rides, target shooting, and natural honey from the villagers; anyone wanting quiet sits by the river with a glass of tea. Lunch in a country restaurant on the water, then the village of Mirveti and its small waterfall among the trees, and back to the hotel around six.

  4. Day 4: Day Four | Batumi's nature: Mtirala, the botanical garden and the fish market

Nine in the morning, to the Mtirala national park, the rainiest of Georgia's mountains: the shaded forest trail about an hour there and back to the suspension bridge over the river, the small waterfall and its cold pool. Then the botanical garden on the Green Cape above the sea with its trees from the world's continents, about an hour and a half of easy walking or the small electric cart for those who prefer. Lunch at the fish market by the sea: you choose the fresh fish from the tables and it is cooked for you at once in the restaurant next door. After lunch the 6 May park in the city centre with its lake, boats and zoo, an easy time for children, then back to the hotel around five with the evening free on the boulevard. The Argo cable car was on day two, so it is not repeated.

  5. Day 5: Day Five | A long day to the Martvili canyon

Seven in the morning, north on the highway towards Martvili in western Georgia, about three hours each way with a breakfast stop halfway. In the Martvili canyon we walk the suspended path above the turquoise river among small waterfalls, then descend to the boat landing and take the rubber boat into the narrow canyon under the green walls for about a quarter of an hour, the programme's finest photos. Those who wish continue to the Abasha river with its small dam and nearby waterfall. Lunch in a country restaurant from the Mingrelian kitchen known for its cheese bread and sauces. Around three we set off back to Batumi, reaching the hotel around half past six. A deliberately long day with nothing added; anyone who prefers to rest stays in Batumi with the car at their service in the city.

  6. Day 6: Day Six | The north coast: Petra, Shekvetili, the miniature park and Tsitsinatela

Ten in the morning, north along the coast road to the historic Petra fortress on its rock above the Black Sea, about forty minutes on its walls. We continue through Kobuleti to Shekvetili: the great dendrological park with its giant trees brought whole by sea, its paths, lakes and birds, then the neighbouring miniature park where Georgia's churches, castles and bridges stand small in one square. Lunch at a seaside restaurant, then time on Ureki beach with its black magnetic sand for those who wish. At sunset the Tsitsinatela amusement park in its summer season, two hours among the rides and lights, and back to Batumi at night. Outside summer the rides give way to a return at sunset and dinner in Batumi. For those who prefer a free day instead of the coast: the local bazaars and Batumi's malls, a day at a cabin or resort outside the city, or the dolphin show in its season; we arrange it as the family wishes.

  7. Day 7: Day Seven | A last morning, then departure

Check-out and the bags into the car. A last morning in the city according to the flight time: the covered central market for Adjaran tea, honey, spices and churchkhela as gifts for the family, or a last walk on the boulevard and time by the sea, or an hour at the mall for anyone with something left to buy. A light lunch, then the drive to nearby Batumi International Airport with time to spare before take-off. For those flying from Tbilisi or Kutaisi we arrange the overland transfer the same day, with the road time counted exactly, and it can become a sightseeing day on the way with chosen stops.
