Overview
This 7 day Georgia snow tour is for travellers who want the whole winter, not only the skiing: two days in Tbilisi at the start, three nights in Gudauri, then a final night back in the capital before departure. What separates it from the shorter programme is that the mountain here is not just a slope; one full day runs north out of Gudauri over the Jvari Pass to Stepantsminda and Gergeti Trinity Church at 2,170 metres beneath Mount Kazbek, and the background to that drive is in Kazbegi and the Caucasus Travel Guide. It suits anyone who wants a day or two on skis and then something else, and it works just as well for non-skiers, since the gondolas, the views and the sulphur baths fill their days. If you only want to ski and in the shortest time, read Georgia Snow Tour 5 Days - Gudauri. An Arabic-speaking driver matters most on this route: reaching Gergeti in winter needs a local four-wheel-drive and knowing who is running today, the Jvari Pass can close for hours to be cleared, and your driver reads the road and reorders the day instead of cancelling it. Trip Itinerary
اليوم 1: Day One | Arrival in Tbilisi and a first evening by the river
You are met at Tbilisi International Airport and taken to the hotel. Most Gulf flights land after midnight, so we put nothing into the first day beyond what a tired body will take: rest, then a short outing once you are up, to the Mtkvari riverside, Rike Park and the lit Bridge of Peace. A Georgian dinner near the hotel starting with hot khinkali and khachapuri, the best things to eat on a cold night. In the evening we go through the seven-day plan with you and set tomorrow's departure time around how you slept.
اليوم 2: Day Two | Tbilisi in winter: Narikala, Abanotubani and Rustaveli
A full city day. We ride the cable car from Rike Park up to Narikala fortress and walk down from it into the Abanotubani quarter with its rounded brick domes, where the natural sulphur baths that the city was built around still run, and an hour inside one of them is the best thing to do on a winter day. After lunch we walk Kote Abkhazi street, then go up to the large Sameba Cathedral, and finish on Rustaveli Avenue between the opera house, the parliament and the cafes. The evening is free in the centre, where every distance is short.
اليوم 3: Day Three | Mtskheta and the climb to Gudauri
We leave the hotel after breakfast with the luggage. The first stop is Mtskheta, twenty kilometres away: Jvari Monastery on the hill above the meeting of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, then Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. We continue north on the Georgian Military Highway and stop at Ananuri fortress above the Zhinvali reservoir, then climb the Aragvi valley through Pasanauri until the snow begins on both sides. We reach Gudauri in the afternoon and check in, leaving quiet time for a first short run near the base or a walk around the resort and fitting the equipment for tomorrow.
اليوم 4: Day Four | A full ski day in Gudauri
A day on the mountain from the first lift to the last. We start at the base at around 2,200 metres in the Kudebi sector with its long blue runs, then after lunch go up to Sadzele at 3,279 metres, where the view opens above the treeline in every direction. Anyone who does not ski has their own day: the gondola up and back for the view, tubing at the base, or a tandem paraglider flight with an instructor when the weather allows. The driver stays in the resort all day, so whoever wants to go back early goes back without waiting for the rest.
اليوم 5: Day Five | Stepantsminda and Gergeti Trinity below Kazbek
A full day north of the pass. We leave Gudauri in the morning and cross the Jvari Pass at 2,395 metres, the highest point on the Georgian Military Highway, then drop into the Kobi valley and continue about thirty-five kilometres to Stepantsminda. From the town a local four-wheel-drive takes us up a steep, twisting track to Gergeti Trinity Church at 2,170 metres, from where Mount Kazbek, 5,047 metres, appears whenever the cloud lifts. Lunch in the town, then a stop at the Dariali gorge near the border, and back to Gudauri before dark.
اليوم 6: Day Six | The Friendship Monument and back down to Tbilisi
A last mountain morning: we call at the Friendship Monument just above the resort, a concrete half-circle covered in a coloured mural standing on the lip of the Jvari valley, best visited early before the coaches arrive. Anyone who wants two more hours on the slopes takes them before we go. In the afternoon we drive the one hundred and twenty kilometres down to Tbilisi and check into the city hotel. The evening is for the Old Town, or for a Georgian dinner with polyphonic singing, an old local tradition you can still hear in several restaurants in the centre.
اليوم 7: Day Seven | Last shopping and departure
An open day shaped by your flight time. If you want gifts we take you to the Dry Bridge market for antiques and old curiosities, or to one of the large malls on the edge of the city for clothes and perfume. If you prefer quiet, the morning works well on the Mtatsminda ridge above the city or in a cafe on Rustaveli. We collect the luggage from the hotel and transfer you to Tbilisi International Airport with a comfortable margin; the airport is about seventeen kilometres from the centre.
