Trip Itinerary

  1. اليوم 1: Day One | Arrival in Tbilisi: greeting and an evening with no appointments

    You are met inside the arrivals hall at Tbilisi International Airport; the driver carries your bags to the car and then to your room, and handles hotel check-in for you if you land late. The city centre is only about seventeen kilometres away, a quarter of an hour. We deliberately schedule nothing today, you decide. If you want to go out we take half an hour by Rike Park and the Peace Bridge when it is lit, and if you want to sleep we leave. Before the night ends the driver agrees tomorrow's departure hour with you, a habit repeated every evening of the week.

  2. اليوم 2: Day Two | Tbilisi on your clock: sulphur baths, Narikala and the old town

    The day begins when you wake, not before. First the Abanotubani quarter with its brick domes, where a private cabin is booked in one of the sulphur bathhouses instead of the public hall; the water is naturally warm from the city's springs. Then the cable car from Rike Park up to Narikala fortress for the river and the old roofs from above, and a walk down into the lanes of Shardeni and Erekle II. Lunch is long, with nothing pressing behind it. The afternoon is for resting at the hotel, and in the evening a table reserved in your name at a restaurant over the Kura serving khinkali and khachapuri.

  3. اليوم 3: Day Three | Mtskheta, Jvari and a Kartli wine estate

    Half a day outside the capital: twenty kilometres north to Mtskheta, the old capital. We start at Jvari monastery above the meeting of the Kura and Aragvi rivers, going up in the slanting light rather than at midday with the coaches, then down to Svetitskhoveli cathedral in town. Lunch is at a wine estate in the Kartli region among the vines, with a short tasting for those who want it and fresh grape juice for those who do not. Back in Tbilisi late afternoon, and the evening is yours alone: Galleria or East Point, with the driver waiting at the entrance however long you take.

  4. اليوم 4: Day Four | The Military Road to Stepantsminda, unhurried

    We leave at the hour you chose, and your large luggage stays at the Tbilisi hotel so you go up the mountain with an overnight bag only. The Georgian Military Road is just one hundred and sixty kilometres, but we take it slowly: a stop at Ananuri fortress above the turquoise Zhinvali reservoir, coffee at the Friendship Monument in Gudauri on the lip of a deep valley, and the Jvari pass at 2,395 metres. We reach Stepantsminda in the afternoon, to a room facing the mountain. The private 4x4 up to Gergeti Trinity church is held back until the day buses have gone and the place is empty.

  5. اليوم 5: Day Five | A morning facing Kazbek, then the transfer to Batumi

    The morning has no programme: a long breakfast in front of Mount Kazbek, which is usually clear before the midday cloud. We come down when you are ready, not earlier. The road to Batumi is long, about 450 kilometres and seven hours with stops, so we break it up: through Tbilisi to collect your luggage, a long lunch in Imereti beyond the Rikoti tunnels, and if you want it a stop at the rock town of Uplistsikhe. Anyone who prefers to skip the drive entirely can take a domestic flight from Tbilisi, with a second car meeting them at Batumi airport. Arrival in the evening.

  6. اليوم 6: Day Six | Batumi: the Argo cable car and a private boat at sunset

    A full Batumi day at the city's pace rather than a schedule's. We start late with the Argo cable car, which lifts you some 250 metres above town to Anuria hill, where the port, the boulevard and the green mountains behind them appear in one view. After lunch the time is free, on the beach or in the hotel spa, with the car on call and not moving from the door. Before sunset we go down to the port for a private boat trip along the city front and past the Alphabet Tower. Dinner is on the Piazza in the old town, at a table reserved in your name.

  7. اليوم 7: Day Seven | A free morning, then departure from Batumi airport

    Nothing is rushed on the last day: Batumi International Airport is six kilometres south of the centre and no more than fifteen minutes away, so the whole morning stays yours. A last walk on the boulevard, coffee by Europe Square, or one quick stop for Georgian tea and mountain honey at a single shop the driver knows so no time is wasted. We handle check-out and the luggage, and reach the airport at the hour you want rather than the bare minimum.
