Overview

Trip Itinerary

1. Day 1: The day | From the hotel door to the Gergeti church and back

   Nine in the morning, departure from your hotel in Tbilisi. After an hour we reach the Ananuri fortress on the shore of the blue Zhinvali lake, walk among its walls and two churches for about half an hour and take photos from the tower. We climb on to Gudauri above two thousand metres: a stop at the round monument over the Aragvi valley, and in the cable-car season anyone who wishes rides up to see the slopes from above; in summer tandem paragliding can be arranged in advance for the adventurous. We cross the mountain pass and descend to Stepantsminda, then go up to the Gergeti church by local four-wheel-drive or in our own car depending on the road, and spend a quiet while in front of Mount Kazbek, snow-capped all year. Lunch in a mountain restaurant serving khinkali and hot bread, then, time allowing, a stop at the Gveleti waterfall or the Truso mineral springs. Back the same way at sunset, reaching the hotel between seven and eight in the evening. In winter the pass may close for hours because of snow; we check the road before leaving and adjust the time with you.
