Trip Itinerary

1. Day 1: The day | The Prometheus cave by boat, then Kutaisi

   Half past seven in the morning, departure from your Tbilisi hotel; the day is long and we want to arrive before the crowds. A breakfast or coffee stop after two hours at the roadside in the Khashuri area. We reach Tskaltubo near noon and enter the Prometheus cave: a trail of about a kilometre and a half among stalagmites and stalactites in halls lit in changing colours; it is cool inside all year, so a light jacket is needed, and at the end of the trail a boat crosses the underground river for those who wish. Lunch in Kutaisi from the Imeretian kitchen known for its cheese bread and walnut vegetables. After lunch we climb to the Bagrati cathedral and see the city and its river from the hill, then walk the central square around the golden fountain and enter the covered green market for spices, cheese and honey. Around half past four we set off back to Tbilisi, reaching the hotel between half past eight and nine in the evening.
