Trip Itinerary
اليوم 1: Day One | Tbilisi to Borjomi and an evening at the spring
You are met at Tbilisi International Airport and we drive about a hundred and sixty kilometres west across the plain and into the mouth of the Mtkvari gorge, roughly two and a half hours with a rest stop. We arrive in Borjomi and check into the hotel that will be yours for four nights. In the evening we walk in through the gate of the central park to the pavilion over the mineral spring, where the water is drunk warm and salty straight from the ground; this is the same Borjomi water that is exported in bottles. A short walk along the river and a first dinner in mountain air.
اليوم 2: Day Two | Borjomi park, the cable car and Likani palace
A full day in Borjomi itself. We walk up through the central park beside the Borjomula stream under its dense trees, about two and a half kilometres to the warm open-air mineral pool, on a level path that suits children. We take the park's short cable car up to the plateau above with its Ferris wheel over the valley. In the afternoon we drive west to Likani to see the Romanov palace, built in the 1890s as a summer residence for one of the grand dukes, with its gardens above the river. A short drive back to the hotel.
اليوم 3: Day Three | The Kukushka train up to Bakuriani
The train day. We board the Kukushka, the narrow-gauge line opened at the start of the twentieth century, which covers thirty-seven kilometres in about two and a half hours, climbing slowly between forest and villages and crossing a steel bridge at Tsemi whose design is attributed to Gustave Eiffel's company. The car drives up by road and meets you at Bakuriani station, at about seventeen hundred metres. After lunch the Didveli gondola takes us up to see the slopes green in summer, then the alpine botanical garden, and we return by road in an hour.
اليوم 4: Day Four | The Green Monastery, Timotesubani and the national park
We drive about eight kilometres up the Chitakhevi valley to the Green Monastery, a small stone monastery from the early centuries of Georgian Christianity, standing among trees on the edge of a stream. We continue into the Tori valley to the brick monastery of Timotesubani, twelfth century, with its interior wall paintings preserved. In the afternoon we enter Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park from the visitor centre, one of the largest forest reserves in the region, and walk a short trail among pine and beech. A quiet evening in Borjomi, buying honey and mountain tea if you want it.
اليوم 5: Day Five | A last valley morning and the drive to Tbilisi
Check out with enough time for a final morning: a short walk through the centre of Borjomi and a stop at the spring pavilion to fill your bottles from the source before the road. We set off east back to Tbilisi on the same route with a lunch stop halfway, about two and a half hours. We reach Tbilisi International Airport in time for your flight, and if it is a late one we arrange two hours in central Tbilisi or at a market near the airport road instead of waiting in the terminal.
