Trip Itinerary

  1. اليوم 1: Day One | A private arrival in Tbilisi and an evening in the Old Town

    You are met at the arrivals gate of Tbilisi International Airport, your luggage is handled, and a premium car takes you to a five-star hotel near Rustaveli Avenue or in the quiet Vera district. There is real time to rest before anything else. As evening falls a private walk begins in the Old Town with no group attached: Chardin street, Sioni church, Meidan square and the lanes of the sulphur baths with their low clay domes. Dinner is on a terrace facing Narikala fortress once it is lit, the table reserved in advance in a corner away from the main room.

  2. اليوم 2: Day Two | A private sulphur bath, Mtatsminda and Turtle Lake

    No intercity driving today. A late breakfast at the hotel, then a private cabin reserved at one of the sulphur baths in Abanotubani: a closed room for the two of you with a pool of the natural sulphur water the city was founded on. In the afternoon the funicular climbs Mtatsminda for a view over all of Tbilisi from around 770 metres, followed by a short transfer to quiet Turtle Lake above the green district for a slow walk around the water. The evening is entirely free: the cafes of Aghmashenebeli Avenue, or an early return.

  3. اليوم 3: Day Three | Tsinandali estate and Sighnaghi at sunset

    You leave east for Kakheti, the best known vineyard region in Georgia. The first stop is Tsinandali estate: its English garden laid out in the nineteenth century, and the house of Prince Chavchavadze with its library and furniture kept as it was. After lunch the hill road runs to Sighnaghi, where you check into a hotel inside the walls with a room facing the Alazani plain. Before sunset you walk the stone rampart that rings the town for four kilometres with twenty-three towers, then take a private terrace dinner as the plain turns from gold to the shadow of the Caucasus.

  4. اليوم 4: Day Four | A balloon over the Alazani plain, then up into the mountains

    You wake before sunrise and are driven to the launch field on the plain, where balloons lift with the first light because the air is still only at that hour: about forty minutes above the vineyards, the villages of the region and the wall of the Caucasus on the horizon. The flight depends on the weather and has an alternative if the wind rises. Breakfast follows the landing, then the road west and up the Georgian Military Highway: the turquoise Zhinvali reservoir, the stone fortress of Ananuri, and the Gudauri panorama arch at 2,200 metres. You reach Stepantsminda for a mountain dinner facing the peak.

  5. اليوم 5: Day Five | Gergeti, the Sno valley and the Dariali gorge

    If the sky is clear the first sight of the day is from your window: the white summit of Kazbek at sunrise, 5,033 metres high. After breakfast you transfer to a 4x4 that climbs the gravel track to Gergeti Trinity Church at 2,170 metres, the peak standing directly behind it. Then the quiet Sno valley with its carved stone heads, and the Dariali gorge at the northern border with a short walk to Gveleti waterfall. In the afternoon you descend south and stop at Mtskheta for Jvari monastery on its hill, where two rivers of different colours meet, before a night in Tbilisi.

    The only long transfer day, and it is broken by real stops rather than fuel stations. You set off west after breakfast and pause first at the cave town of Uplistsikhe near Gori, carved into rock before the common era, with its halls and hewn passages. A lunch break in Kutaisi follows, then the descent toward the coast through tea hills until the sea humidity appears. You reach Batumi before sunset and check into a hotel facing the bay, then take a quiet evening walk along the boulevard and pass the moving statue of Ali and Nino.

  7. اليوم 7: Day Seven | The Adjara countryside, Makhuntseti and a boat at sunset

    In the morning the road climbs east along the Adjaristsqali river valley, about thirty kilometres, to Makhuntseti waterfall, which drops some fifteen metres into a pool you can walk up to, beside an arched stone bridge attributed to the age of Queen Tamar. Lunch is at a country restaurant where the bread is baked in front of you. You return in the late afternoon for a rest, then take a private hour on a boat in Batumi bay before sunset: the whole city seen from the water, its towers lighting one after another. Dinner afterwards on Piazza square.

  8. اليوم 8: Day Eight | A morning by the sea, then departure

    A morning with no schedule: the hotel pool or a last walk along the seafront, depending on your flight. If there is extra time, a short visit to Batumi central market for tea grown in the Adjara hills, mountain honey and spices, or a ride up the Alphabet Tower for a final view over the bay. Bags are packed and a private transfer takes you to Batumi International Airport, close to the centre, or you are driven comfortably back to Tbilisi if you fly out of the capital.
