The line to fix first
The biggest source of anxiety in a travel budget is the open-ended items: what will today's transport cost, and what will the hotel cost in the next city? So we start by fixing the two largest lines. Flights: the most volatile line
Flights alone can be a third or half of the budget depending on timing. Three practical moves genuinely reduce this line: travelling outside peak July and August and New Year week, comparing arrival into Tbilisi airport against Kutaisi airport in the west of the country, and accepting a late-night arrival. Many flights from the Gulf land after midnight, which does not trouble you at all when the meet-and-greet, the car and the hotel are arranged in advance, but costs you a whole night and a lot of effort when they are not. Note a point many travellers miss: a late-night arrival day counts as a day in any programme, because the car, the airport pickup and the hotel are all working on it. Budget for it from the start rather than being surprised by it.
Food: cheaper than you expect
Food in Georgia is one of the kinder lines in a Gulf family's budget compared with other European destinations. A family meal at a mid-range restaurant in Tbilisi or Batumi stays within reasonable bounds, and Georgian cooking itself is generous: khinkali, khachapuri and the grill dishes feed more people than the menu suggests. Add that breakfast is inside the room rate at our hotels, and a third of your meals drop out of the calculation.
A practical tip for families: one supermarket visit on the first day for fruit, water, milk and children's snacks noticeably lowers the weekly bill, and prices in the large stores are reasonable. Activities: where the total inflates or holds
The car and hotel price does not include entry tickets and activities, and this is the line that separates one family's final figure from another's. The cable cars in Tbilisi up to Narikala fortress and in Batumi up to the Anuria hill are small items, but water parks, theme parks, the Martvili canyon boats and the Prometheus cave add up quickly when there are six of you.
- Winter costs more in activities: lift passes, ski hire and instructor time per person raise this line more than people expect.
- Summer costs less in activities: the beach, the public parks and walking in Borjomi are low-cost or free.

What changed in 2026
The budget above is not fixed from year to year. These are the movements we see in the market this season.
Hotels have risen most. Gulf demand for Tbilisi and Batumi has grown quickly, and good central hotels are now booked months ahead in peak summer and over the new year. For a suitable family room, the gap in price between booking early and late can reach a third.
Transport rose more gently. A private car with a driver on the open market runs roughly USD 100 to 160 a day depending on the vehicle, the length of the route and the season, and the gap between mountain and city routes has widened because fuel and time in the mountains cost more.
Food has barely moved. It remains the cheapest line of the trip compared with any European destination.
Flights are the biggest variable and the least predictable, depending far more on your departure city and booking date than on the year.

Do children count?

What is not included in the price?
Flights, insurance and a visa if required, meals other than breakfast, entry and cable car tickets, optional activities such as skiing and its equipment, and personal shopping. Since 1 January 2026 health insurance is mandatory for every traveller, children included: it must cover the whole stay from the day of arrival to the day of departure with at least 30,000 GEL of cover, on paper or electronically, in English or Georgian. It is not included in our price, so buy it before you travel; the border officer may ask for it and entry may be refused without it.
Is Georgia cheaper than Turkey or Europe for a family?
